Madeline Spear, the founder of Shine On Digital has been asked to chair the Association of Festival Organisers (AFO) Climate Action Group.
Shine On Digital has long been involved with the music industry and festivals and live events sector. Over the past decade, Shine On Digital has successfully worked with a variety of music festivals on their digital marketing and promotion.
Madeline is on the Advisory Group for the Association of Festival Organisers, who meet regularly in order to put together the AFO Conference and to discuss issues that affect festivals and events, whether positively or negatively.
The AFO was founded in 1987 when a group of festival organisers came together to exchange ideas. Since its formation, the AFO has grown to a nationwide independent organisation, supporting its members throughout the UK, and giving a voice to the festival and events and live music industry.
Shine On Digital already manages the AFO’s website, marketing, and social media. Now Madeline will take the lead with the AFO’s Climate Action Group, a subject that she is very passionate about.
What Are the Climate Action Group’s Aims?
As we are all no doubt aware, climate change is a huge challenge that we all face regardless of industry or sector and urgent action is needed to prevent the situation from worsening.
The AFO Climate Action Group aims to work together to help festival and event organisers better understand their environmental impact and to encourage festivals and events to be more climate friendly.
The Climate Action Group will provide climate action and sustainability policies to guide festival and event organisers. The group hopes to drive change throughout the sector.
The group’s Climate Action Resources provide a starting point for festival organisers, with tools to measure environmental impact and track progress over time. You can find the resources on the AFO website, where you can also check out the AFO Sustainability News.
The AFO Climate Action Group holds monthly meetings, at which, key speakers share ideas, tools and ways in which festivals and events can reduce their environmental impact, ideally aiming for net-zero. Anyone working within the industry is welcome to attend the meetings, which are held online.
