LinkedIn is a completely different social media ecosystem to any of the other platforms out there! Being the largest business orientated networking platform, with over 500 million members, it can enhance your personal and professional brand and increase sales or traffic to your business. It can essentially become your networking group, provided you post effectively!

So, what should you be posting?

Telling your story!

Whilst this is true for all social media platforms, these ones should be more tailored towards your career, business milestones and professional insights.

Here are some examples to get you started!

  • What was your first job, and what did it teach you? How are you using the experience that you gained then, today?
  • What are your core values?
  • How did you get to the position you are in now?
  • Have you hit a career milestone? Now is a great time to describe some of the lessons that you have learnt in that time.
  • Explain how you have overcome a failure.
  • Share a behind the scenes look at your day!

News in your field

Sharing interesting happenings in your professional sphere is a great way to demonstrate that you’re aware and up to date! Explaining shifts in your field will really demonstrate that you can be trusted to cater to your customers’ needs in a changing and evolving field, that you care enough to keep updated and that you understand how these impacts may influence how you work.

Give your opinion on a recent news piece from your field of expertise.

Share some news from a related field, and explain how that may also impact you.

Opinion Pieces

Sharing your opinion is a great way to become more than just a business, you become someone identifiable, more of the human face behind all the corporate speak. It allows you to show the depth of your knowledge and how you think. Take this as an opportunity to show why you are an expert in your field!

Ask questions!

This is actually a really great way to gain engagement – and forge connections with other users. Ask interesting questions or challenge an existing statement or belief in your industry. If you can post something bold without being inflammatory, it’s a great way to reap comments and shares, as others leap in to answer! Obviously, this has to be carefully curated, but is well worth the extra effort!

Don’t forget the graphics.

Grab readers’ attention with eye catching graphics, images or video. Carousels, particularly seamless ones, are particularly trendy at the moment! Videos are also gaining popularity, although not at the same rate as Facebook or Instagram, so don’t worry about sprinkling a few of those throughout as well.

In summary!

The main thing to keep in mind is to be relatable. Show your audience that you’re an expert in your field with knowledgeable contributions and give peeks of who you are as a person. Share what inspires you, don’t be afraid to offer tips and advice to others, and explain your journey and what you learned along the way.
