We’re constantly discussing different ways to boost your SEO because it’s so important for your business’ search rankings. These rankings and an increased online visibility will lead to a higher footfall and therefore, increased sales.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation and it is simply that process of making your online presence more search engine friendly, to improve your rankings. Local SEO is the same process, with a focus on local searches. You can read more about SEO here.
This article will focus on one important aspect of building an SEO strategy: internal linking.
What is Internal Linking?
There are two types of hyperlinks: internal or external. External links are those that link to another domain.
Internal links are simply hyperlinks which point to pages of the same domain. So, when you’re writing content for your website, internal links are those which link to your website and keep the reader in the same domain.
How Does this Benefit SEO?
Link building is the process of getting websites to link back to your website and internal links play a huge role in this. Google (and other search engines) see link building as a sign that your website is trustworthy and has relevant content, so will feature it higher in results.
Internal links specifically, help Google to locate and index all pages on your site. You want to give Google as much information as possible about your site because the more it knows about the different pages of your website, the better it will be for your site’s rankings.
That doesn’t mean you should be linking every other word, it won’t flow and at this point it won’t benefit your Google rankings, so get them in there but don’t overload.
